ABOUT PJA: Portland Jewish Academy (PJA) is an inclusive school that strives to recognize, understand, and honor all of our families. While PJA's base operation is an Early Childhood and K-8 school, we also offer an on-site afterschool program for PJA students and off-site afterschool programs serving public schools in the Portland Metro area. The 2024-25 school year program will include four site locations.

JOB SUMMARY: The Afterschool Program Coordinator is responsible for staff and program supervision and is accountable for daily site operations as well as the direct care and supervision of K-6 children in an outside school time program. This position provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, social and emotional development of children. This position acts as the main on-site representative of PJA and is responsible for maintaining a relationship with PPS and PJA staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These examples represent the essential functions of the position. They are not, however, inclusive of all the duties the position may be assigned to perform.)
Model appropriate behavior, observe and evaluate staff and children, develop activity programs, ensure safety of program, provide first aid, dispense and record medications, direct service when short staffing ratios require. Direct subordinate staff and delegate tasks, supervise and provide feedback, review and verify time cards, maintain accurate staff files. Monitor daily attendance and tracking systems, snack menus, head counts, expenditure budgets, filing systems, receipt reports and deadlines. Contact families to confirm ALL unexcused absences. Keep families informed via newsletters, email, phone, text, in person formal and informal discussions and maintain confidentiality. Check and respond to communications daily. QUALIFICATIONS:
21 years of age or older Maintain enrollment in Oregon's Central Background Registry Maintain CPR/First Aid & Food Handler Card along with all other training required by state licenses At least one year of experience working with school age youth in a management capacity Have verifiable knowledge of Child Development via education transcripts, references from prior experience or training certificates. Willing to obtain and complete mandatory training within the first year of employment Have reliable transportation to transport large materials to and from the program site. This would most easily be achieved with a valid Driver's license and insured vehicle to transport supplies. Skills: (can be taught to the right candidate)
Standard office machines (printers, copy machines, laminators, etc.) Proficient in remote work technology like google suite, google drive Maintaining a budget, inventory of supplies, and document filing systems Ability:
Work independently, with guidance and support from a supervisor Communicate effectively with youth at their individual developmental levels Develop and execute age-appropriate and differentiated enrichment activities Work independently and with direction from supervisors. Prioritize efficiently Supervise and manage groups of varying sizes - adults and children Meet and deal courteously with employees, parents, children and the public Use good judgment and remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations that may arise Support PJA and its leadership, represent PJA in a public school setting Work schedules as assigned, including at other PJA afterschool sites Ensure appropriateness of program activities Schedule nutritionally appropriate snacks and maintain safe food service Purchase necessary supplies and maintain expenditure budget Operate the program in compliance with certification requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
