Job Description
General Summary
The University of Maryland Capital Region Health Residency will allow an individual to observe, learn and perform as a member of the senior leadership team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a resident to work on and lead projects within the five pillars of the University of Maryland Capital Region Health's Annual Operating Plan- Quality, Integration, Market, Workforce, and Finance. The student will have the opportunity to work with senior leaders across each of the five pillars to accomplish the following goals:
- Improve quality and patient experience
- Reduce harmful patient events
- Decrease readmissions and Preventative Quality Indicators (PQI)
- Achieve medical group CMS Quality Targets
- Expand current acute, primary, and ambulatory care network
- Expand unregulated revenue
- Improve voluntary turnovers rates
- Develop a robust communication culture
- Improve financial performance
- Enhance philanthropy efforts
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Observes executive leaders in decision-making meetings, project meetings and strategy review sessions.
2. Learn/practices analytic, organizational, administrative and leadership skills in a variety of settings.
3. Learns new skills in strategic planning, business plan development, new program development, and financial feasibility studies.
4. Performs analyses to support the implementation of strategic and operational initiatives
5. Participates in community relations activities.
6. Participates/obtains training in project management of performance improvement initiatives using principles from LEAN and other improvement approaches.
7. Engages with key groups including the community, Boards, local and state government partners, the medical community, and staff.
8. Participates in projects which have enterprise-wide impact.
9. Participates in leadership development opportunities.
10. Haves the opportunity to concentrate the residency experience in areas that best match the Resident's interests.
11. Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Second year student in an accredited Master's in Health Administration program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated proficiency with the use of Access, Excel, WordPerfect, PowerPoint, or other spreadsheet and graphics software applications required.
2. Strong research skills, including conducting research using the Internet and other on-line library services.
3. Ability to collect, design and interpret data and prepare professional text reports and graphic presentations.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills and problem-solving skills are required to work successfully with diverse staff members throughout the organization.
