Job Description:

Title: Adjunct Instructor - Swahili Language
Unit: DCE Adjunct Instructor
Department: World Language Institute
Reports to: Dean of Liberal Arts
Date: May 2, 2024
General Summary: Middlesex Community College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Swahili Instructor to join our World Languages Institute. This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about teaching and promoting cultural understanding. The instructor will be responsible for teaching Swahili language courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that meet curriculum goals. Teach Swahili language classes to students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Assess student progress through both formative and summative assessments. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Organize cultural activities and language workshops to enhance the learning experience. Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Provide regular feedback to students a to support student learning.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, African Studies, or a related field; Fluency in Swahili and English, both spoken and written. Prior teaching experience in a similar role is highly desirable. Strong understanding of language teaching pedagogies and methodologies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and engage students in learning. Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Education, Linguistics, African Studies, or a related field
Additional Information:

Salary Range: DCE Adjunct Faculty are paid in accordance with the DCE Step Levels provided in the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours: Schedule to be determined upon hire
Expected Start Date: September 3, 2024
