The Accounting Technician - Cashier/AP Specialist works under the direction of the Finance Director and follows established procedures and performs a variety of calculating, verifying, posting, and summarizing tasks in maintaining assigned segments of accounting records. Also performs the role of primary backup to the cashiering and customer service functions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Maintains cash receipts: Inputs and reconciles daily cash receipts. Prepares daily bank deposit. Prepares daily reports for all payments received including online payments. Assists in resolving issues associated with cash receipting. Assists with the accounts payable function: Facilitates the accounts payable function by processing disbursements, purchase orders, and maintaining accurate files and reports. Assists with tracking and reconciling payables, as well as working with vendors, as needed. Provides backup and assists other positions: Assists with utility billing customer service as necessary. Assists with maintenance of fixed asset records. Assists with the ordering of office supplies. Assists with maintaining office equipment. Provides customer service to residents and other City visitors: Answers and directs office incoming telephone calls. Directs walk-in visitors. Assists City visitors needing basic information. Receives and distributes mail for all City departments. Provides support for the finance department and various projects as assigned. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent and two years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience combination of related education and experience.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of general bookkeeping principles and methods; knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and purchasing systems. Skill in word processing, spreadsheets, office machine usage and the operation of desk computers; skill in accounting reconciliation, error detection and correction. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Excellent customer service skills, including handling multiple phone lines, de-escalate upset customers, and maintain a positive attitude and composure. Requires a high level of critical thinking and ability to meet deadlines. Strong accuracy and attention to detail is an absolute requirement. Proficiency in money handling and basic math skills. Ability to alphabetize, solve problems, and research effectively. General clerical skills to be measured through valid testing methods or through verifiable work experience.
