The Accounting team has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects of Fred Hutch's finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within Fred Hutch to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
The Accounting Manager is a supervisory position within the Corporate Accounting Department. The role requires both deep Accounting knowledge as well as an advanced understanding of business process and industry best practices. In additional to recurring operational responsibilities, this role functions as an internal consultant to peers and less experienced staff by demonstrating thought leadership and technical expertise.
The individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product. He/she will also interact closely with the Corporate Treasurer, AR Manager, cross-department Finance staff and key Accounting customers.
This position reports to the Assistant Controller and has two direct reports.
Monitor daily cash positions and cash reporting of all bank accounts, initiate inter-bank transfers as required, and record banking transactions to general ledger Determine short term cash needs or excess cash to invest, while ensuring adequate overall liquidity level Process Federal letter of credit draws Supervise Cash Receipts team to ensure timely and accurately process of daily cash receipts for the Research line of business Function as online banking administrator, manage users' profile, supervise daily online transactions, proposes, implements and monitors bank account controls Maintain banking relationship with financial institutions, keep bank signatories and KYC documentation up to date Account and report on all investment activities including two major investment pools, record monthly valuation and investment earning allocation, perform reconciliations Record debt related transactions including bonds, swaps and credit lines and perform debt accounts reconciliation Maintain reporting on donor restricted funding, prepare endowment funds UPMIFA schedule for budget appropriation Assist in the preparation of Fred Hutch's financial statements by preparing journal entries and perform/review balance sheet accounts reconciliation, Provide support to month- and year-end close processes, internal and external audits and tax regulatory filings Provide accounting and financial guidance to internal teams including Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Office of Sponsored Research, and others Keep abreast of changes to GAAP, regulations, and federal guidelines relevant to the Center's finances. Other projects as assigned by the Assistant Controller MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related fields CPA or similar technical designation 6 + years progressive work experience in an accounting environment A thorough understanding of treasury operations, cash management as well as knowledge of full cycle accounting, preferably of the nonprofit sector Demonstrated judgment, time organization skills and attention to detail Ability to communicate financial data with clarity Strong organizational, analytic and project management skills Ability to create efficiencies and highly collaborative, comfortable with conflict and ambiguity normally associated with changes Maintain high level of professional and confidentiality standards Ability to learn and teach others established processes PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with non-profit or research business models Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook; Experience with PeopleSoft A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists. The annual base salary range for this position is from $104,416 to $165,006, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
