TITLE: Accounting Manager

PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule

FLSA: Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Finance Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works on-site according to designated schedule

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Finance Director, plans, organizes, analyzes and evaluates District accounting processes and procedures. Prepares financial reports and performs data entry for a variety of District fiscal processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience. Spanish language skills or bilingual/biliterate are also preferred. General accounting knowledge and experience including payroll required. Experience in fund accounting and grant management, a plus. Duties include performing or overseeing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, chart of accounts and budget management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. * Answers multiple busy phone lines efficiently.* Acts as Assistant Treasurer for the District.* Assists the Finance Director in the development of processes and procedures to ensure redundancy and separation of duties for security and compliance.* Processes monthly (or more) Payroll for all employees.* Assists the Human Resource Department with all benefits and deductions related to payroll.* Oversees accounts payable.* Assigns account numbers.* Allocates funds and reconciles budgets.* Maintains the District's Chart of Accounts.* Manages fixed asset inventory.* Reconciles District checking account(s).* Prepares board and State Department of Education reports.* Answers questions and assists employees regarding payroll and finance.* Assists school bookkeepers with school-based accounting and reporting.* Other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and/or education and experience in general accounting and bookkeeping. Skill in processing payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Skill in communicating clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill in producing and reading financial reports. Skill in performing detailed data entry consistently and accurately. Skill in prioritizing effectively. Ability to operate various office equipment efficiently. Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable laws.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use mental acuity and repetitive motion; use hands to hold, move, feel and manipulate objects; reach with hands and arms; sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific speaking and hearing abilities required by this job include expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and receiving detailed information through oral communication. Performs sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Education required

Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
