The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant Senior (Financial Reporting Accountant Senior) to work in Aviation's Finance Division. This is advanced professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of financial records. Work involves performing more complex accounting duties in the Airport's Finance Division such as developing, revising, and installing accounting procedures and forms. The employee exercises considerable independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through periodic external audits, conferences, and the evaluation of various reports.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance; or a bachelor's degree and coursework that qualifies for the CPA Examination.
Requires two (2) years of professional-level financial accounting and reporting, or closely related experience, including six (6) months of lead/supervisory experience depending on the area of assignment.
Special Certifications and Licenses Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business. Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal. Preferences Master's or Doctorate in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Accredited Airport Executive Certification (AAE) or Airport Certified Employee (ACE) Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) Two years PeopleSoft or similar Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) Five years of financial accounting and reporting experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. The Accountant Senior, must possess the following:
Ability to prioritize all assigned tasks and ad-hoc duties and meet given deadlines.
Ability to plan, organize and prepare semi-monthly and monthly reports relating to operating expenses and budgets, and special projects as assigned.
Assist in the coordination of files and activities related to Operating budget preparation.
Conduct research, analyze data, and develop reports on ad-hoc matters assigned by the Financial Reporting Manager.
Journal Entry and Budget Transfer preparation and posting.
Thorough knowledge regarding double entry, debits, credits, assets, and liabilities.
Ability to identify resources within the Finance department and Aviation for required research.
PeopleSoft or similar Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) General Ledger and Excel training
Ability to work unsupervised, and diligently.
Performs related work as assigned.
