Overview:
Job Summary:
We're seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in a professional services environment. Collaborating closely with the Controller and other accounting professionals, you'll handle a diverse range of accounting tasks while adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
This position demands meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to fostering the company's fiscal growth within regulatory compliance and ethical standards.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Revenue Recognition and Project Accounting:
- Facilitate efficient revenue recognition for fixed fee projects during month-end.
- Serve as the primary liaison for project managers, providing crucial project accounting status and metrics.
- Conduct thorough review and setup of projects in NetSuite to ensure accurate financial tracking.
- Analyze project financial variances and communicate findings to management.
- Ensure compliance with ASC 606 standards for project financials.
- Audit and reconcile contract assets and liabilities on a project basis.
- Maintain service items and revenue arrangements as needed.
- Assist in intercompany revenue and receivables.
- Provide support for ASC 606 Project Revenue Recognition.
General Accounting:
- Prepare journal entries with proper documentation.
- Assist in documenting and improving accounting processes.
- Support the Controller during internal or external audits.
- Collaborate on financial reports for internal purposes, parent company, and auditors.
- Participate in business structure expansion initiatives.
- Recommend changes to policies or procedures to enhance financial reporting.
- Provide backup and support for journal entries and other approvals.
- Act as a backup for other team members.
- Assist with month/quarter/year-end tasks including accruals, reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis.
Cash Receipts and Bank Deposits:
- Backup support for deposits and cash receipts.
Financial Audits:
- Assist in preparing financial data for internal and external audits.
- Ensure organized documentation is readily available for auditors.
Confidentiality & Ad Hoc Duties:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
- Assist the Controller with special finance and accounting projects.
- Support finance team and company operations with assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in project cost accounting and finance.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and accounting software.
- Advanced expertise in MS Excel.
- Experience with NetSuite preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and journal entries.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information responsibly and ethically.
- Compliance with local, state, federal financial regulations, and company policies.
- Experience with government contracting organizations is advantageous.
- Valid driver's license and insurance.
Working Environment:
The majority of work for this role is performed in a home office or professional office setting, involving interactions with various individuals.
