Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Specialist to join our team for a critical project involving the decommissioning of a Waste to Energy facility in Long Beach, CA. While this role does not entail standard AP, AR, or month-end close activities, the ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles and processes. As an Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for tracking expenditures on a cash basis
Job Description Preparing monthly invoices for costs incurred during the decommissioning process Providing analytical support for revenue Expense analysis related to outside contractor Track expenditures on a cash basis and prepare accurate monthly invoices for costs associated with the decommissioning of the Waste to Energy facility. Conduct analysis and substantiation of lost revenue and expenses resulting from outside contractor and utility negligence. Provide clerical and administrative support during the decommissioning period, including data entry, filing, and documentation management. Communicate effectively with clients regarding invoice inquiries and audits, ensuring prompt resolution of any issues. Utilize accrual and cost basis accounting principles to accurately capture and report financial transactions. Demonstrate proficiency in ERP systems, with experience in PeopleSoft (preferred) or Oracle, as well as advanced skills in Excel for data analysis and reporting. Exhibit strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends or anomalies. Maintain a professional demeanor and excellent communication skills when interacting with stakeholders, both internally and externally. Work onsite at the facility to ensure close collaboration with project teams and timely resolution of accounting-related matters. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the overall success of the decommissioning project. Utility negligence. Working with AP, tracking expenses. Track and prepare vouchers Pulls invoices, reviews invoice and prepares voucher How to track expenses and look at PO's and understand that process. PeopleSoft nice to have Skills Required 2-year AA degree at minimum 4-5 years of experience, depending on skills Accounting skills Know how to use Microsoft excel Knows what invoice is Proven experience in accounting roles, with a strong understanding of AP, AR, and month-end close processes. Familiarity with accrual and cost basis accounting methodologies. Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly PeopleSoft or Oracle, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in waste management or energy sector projects is a plus. Education/Training/Certification Minimum of an associate degree in accounting or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
