The Michigan Municipal League (the League) is seeking an experienced non-profit Accountant to assist our Finance team in providing a variety of accounting functions. The approximate starting salary range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000 depending on qualifications. The selected candidate will perform a variety of non-profit accounting work for multiple entities, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, GASB/FASB research, and implementation, grants financial management, budgeting, and other related activities. We're looking for a self-starter who can quickly learn new skills and deliver prompt and outstanding work. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is willing to take on new challenges, and can effectively and accurately juggle multiple tasks within deadlines. Incredible organization and attention to detail is a must, along with a positive attitude and a willingness to jump in to do what's needed to get the job done.
If you were working for us, here are just some things you would do: Perform day-to-day non-profit accounting work of the League and its affiliate organizations. Prepare journal entries, various reconciliations, financial statements, and narratives. Participate in providing internal controls and oversight of financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash functions, and other related activities. Provide direction and guidance to other department staff and remain cross-trained to serve as backup to other departmental functions as needed. Take a leadership role in special projects and initiatives and provides subject matter expertise within areas of specialty. Assist with budget and audit activities and other year-end reporting. Accounting for the MML Foundation, a 501c3 public charity. Prepare required grant reports in collaboration with project manager and applicable stakeholders. About You - Our ideal candidate will have: Education or technical training equivalent to a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field is required. Previous experience in an accounting position, including computer work, is required. Strong knowledge and expertise in accounting are required. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of GASB and FASB accounting standards. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Superior organizational skills and close attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work independently and amidst constant change. Skill in the use of standard office equipment. Intermediate skill with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, database software, and finance and accounting systems and programs. Ability to live and work in Michigan to support the state the League represents.
