Job Description and Duties

This position is postedon a12 month limited termbasis with the possibility of being extended up to 24 months or becoming permanent.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accountant I (Specialist) performs semiprofessional accounting work in the maintenance of inmate financial records and associated accounts. The Accountant I (Specialist) processes inmate withdrawals (CDC-193) in TRACS; processes inmate payroll for support, Board of Control claims, Inmate Welfare Fund (IWF), and contracting agencies which include the collection of inmate pay calculation forms at institution sites and audit calculation forms for accuracy; prepares and enters batches for inmate pay; prepares and audits inmate fundraisers in TRACS and prepares checks for signature; posts charges (a withdrawal or a hold against funds) to inmate accounts for payment of various types which may include postage, notary charges, medical co-pays, copy charges, charges for damages, family visits and legal supplies; maintains institutional visiting photo project and prepares reconciliation of funds received; prepared CDC 102 for paroling inmates after receiving notification from Records; places funds from inmate account on hold; enters information for check to be printed in TRACS for Trust Fund balance; prepares Daily Board or list of paroling inmates; enters parole address and Parole Unit on inmates account into TRACS; reviews and verifies inmate account information to respond to counselor, correctional offices, inmates and other institutions; processes informal appeals (CDCR 22); processes legal verification of account activity (Informa Pauperis); processes Federal Filing fees; attends a minimum of 40 hours of In-Service Training (IST) annually and provides coverage behind staff vacancies as needed; other duties as required

Working Conditions

California Correctional Institution is located in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and approximately 120 miles north of Los Angeles.
CCI is a Multi-level, Sensitive Needs Yard, facility consisting of four(4) facilities, encompassed within a campus style layout with varied terrain. Work in this location may require exposure to varied temperatures dependent upon the season.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
