The University of North Alabama Department of Geoscience invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professor positions starting in August 2024. Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in Sustainability, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, or related discipline by August 2024. Applicants should have an extremely broad background in sustainability, with the ability to successfully teach a number of lower and upper-level courses in sustainability. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to undergraduate and international teaching. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The standard teaching workload is four courses per semester (eight courses per year), which will include introductory and upper-level courses, both in-person and online for the department's sustainability program offered through the University of North Alabama-Guizhou University International College of Engineering and Technology in Guiyang, China. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at least two months per semester in China (Chinese language ability is preferred, but not required as courses are taught in English).Minimum qualifications include: 

PhD in sustainability, earth science, environmental science, geography, geology, or a related discipline, in hand by the time of appointment, is required;  ABD status candidates will be accepted provided degree requirements will be met by the time of the appointment;  Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in physical geology, climate change, sustainable energy, environmental systems, sustainable ecosystems, sustainable water resources, sustainable food and agricultural, and sustainable waste management is required;  Ability to teach at least two months per semester in China is required;  Current, valid passport/visa status that allows travel out of the country multiple times per year beginning at the time of appointment is required;  Track record of external grants that have involved and funded students is preferred;  Experience with Quality Matters course certification is preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students; willingness to teach in-person, hybrid, and online modalities; ability to be active in research and scholarship, especially involving students; ability to recruit students to the departmental majors; ability to use social media to enhance departmental recruitment efforts, and the ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside of the department.Please be prepared to upload a cover letter and resume/CV at the time of application, as well as provide contact information for at least three professional references.
