Senior Fellow, Wri

Senior Fellow, Wri
Company:

Georgetown University

Details of the offer

Senior Fellow, WRI
Located in a historic neighborhood in the nation's capital, Georgetown offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, exciting ways to take advantage of Washington, D.C., and a commitment to social justice. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world. Requirements Job Overview
Georgetown Law's Workers' Rights Institute (WRI) conducts research, education, and advocacy to support and expand legal protections and collective self-determination for low-wage Black, Brown, Indigenous, Immigrant, and other oppressed workers. The Institute envisions a society in which all people can experience work that supports a thriving and healthy existence. Project scope
Policies to address the 'future of work' are often ahistoric and defer to the tech sector's view of the world and necessity of their inventions. This approach to the future of work ignores how technology has and continues to advance racist and anti-worker positions. Efforts to regulate the future of work without an anti-racist, pro-worker framework will preserve and reinforce our current system of economic inequality. To challenge this reality, the Workers' Rights Institute is looking for a Senior Fellow to provide support in the development of its future of work portfolio and the Race, Labor and Technology (RLT) framework.
The Senior Fellow will create a cohort program to develop experts at the intersection of race, labor, and technology. The Senior Fellow will also design a Symposium on the need for a anti-racist, pro-worker approach to the future of work.
The senior fellow will plan and execute: Cohort: a space to (a) read and learn about 'RLT', (b) train experts on 'RLT', (c) develop and expand the 'RLT' framework by writing and organizing, and (d) facilitate community amongst practitioners in this discipline. The cohort curriculum will include a political orientation in radical schools of thought, chiefly nonreformist reform, Black feminist thought, critical race theory, and critical legal theory. Symposium - The symposium will be a conference that (a) presents 'RLT' as a framework, (b) elevates the work of the cohort, (c) places other practitioners and scholars using an 'RLT' framework in this arc of work/study, (d) an onboarding tool for people who will not read the volume, and (e) launch the volume, zine, and website. Zine --- The (first) zine will be an introduction to the 'RLT' framework/discipline. It will be a popular education tool and an onboarding tool for advocates/organizers/etc. Project Goals To convene a small group of fellows to learn, discuss, and process the intersection of race, labor, and tech in 2025 To publish a zine or volume with writing and art from the cohort and providing an onboarding tool to this study in 2026 To hold a symposium to highlight the need for a RLT approach and elevate the work of the cohort in 2026 To launch a website as a public education tool and to introduce scholars and organizers to this framework in 2026 Expected benefits The articulation and development of an anti-racist, pro-worker framework for the future of work A network of experts on RLT Materials to on-board and for popular education in RLT Work Interactions

The Senior Fellow reports to and works collaboratively with WRI's Interim Executive Director and Faculty Director, and will interact with external partners.

Requirements and Qualifications JD Required 5 years of experience in labor and technology policy and research Experience in program management including organizing virtual and in-person events Significant expertise in critical race theory, labor, and technology Excellent communication skills Strong organizational skills Should have a strong commitment to the Institute's mission Self-driven work ethic, initiative, and strong capacity for collaboration Work Mode Designation
