Description:
Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for two nine-month (full-time) renewable term faculty positions for the general education course "Gateway to the Sciences". This course is part of a suite of courses that meet the General Education Core V requirement: First Year Experience (FYE).Specifically, Gateway to the Sciences (CAS 1553) will focus on building confidence in one's ability to pursue science-related studies by exploring the diverse range of opportunities available for studying science at the University of Oklahoma, and identifying various science-related programs, majors, and careers.We seek candidates who will contribute to supporting students in all aspects of their engagement with the campus and the scientific community. Successful candidates will have a commitment to excellence in teaching with emphasis on student engagement through active learning. Selected applicants will be appointed as 9 month renewable term faculty. The term of the initial appointment is five years, and faculty who meet the appropriate qualification requirements are eligible to be considered for renewal of their appointment. The regular teaching load is 4:4 with 80% teaching and 20% service.The University of Oklahoma is a Carnegie-R1 comprehensive public research university known for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, serving the educational, cultural, economic, and healthcare needs of the state, region, and nation from three campuses: the main campus in Norman, the Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and the Schusterman Center in Tulsa. Qualifications: Required:
· Doctorate in Science, Science Education, STEM Education, or related area by time of appointment.
Preferred:
· Experience or interest in teaching Science or Science Education.
· Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, mentoring, and advising first-year and transfer students.
· Demonstrated effectiveness cultivating enriching discussions and spurring critical thinking among students.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
