You must pass a background investigation and drug screening. You will drive a university vehicle so you need a valid drivers license and driving record of fewer than six points.
The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

Management of our lock and key system is facilitated through separate computer based key request and master keying systems. Reporting to the Key Office Supervisor, you will preserve the integrity of our key system through secure work practices, proficiency in multiple lock systems, key cutting and security mechanisms, and a commitment to quality service.
Generate keys and cores from hard copy and computer based key record systems. Work from Computer Managed Maintenance System for daily requests. Generate biting charts from key system data to pin locks in the master key system Find codes and cut keys to fill key requests and ensure keys are issued according to hospital security guidelines. Operate master keying software to cut, engrave, print ID label and archive keying requests. Install and repair electronic, code locks, key operated switches, cylindrical, unit, mortise rim, pin tumbler, lever, wafer and other locks. Pin cores and install for new buildings, leased space and remodel projects Keep key records current with pertinent information derived from core installation projects, maintenance requests and building audits. Diagnose problems and maintain locking devices that have failed or are past service life expectations Maintain an inventory of supplies including key blanks, cores, housings, tailpieces and other relevant materials or equipment. Work with customers to ensure that jobs are completed to reasonable expectations and hardware is operating within specifications including customer education of device functions Remove keys that have broken off in locks and extract failed cores Gain emergency egress through doors, locked furniture or cabinets Fabricate and repair locks parts, levers, springs and lock by filing, soldiering, cutting, bending and the use of hand or power tools. Pick locks and make key impressions for keys that have been lost Must be willing to flex time work schedule and work occasional after hours or weekend hours during critical situation Demonstrated abilities to organize and complete work assignments Ability to understand building prints and a suitable knowledge of code requirements about the job duties. One year of Institutional or commercial locksmith experience Working knowledge of Master Keying Experience operating manual and automatic key machine Demonstrated past success conveying ideas, building rapport and collaborating with diverse customers Proficiency in gathering and maintaining records Knowledge of applicable fire/safety/ADA codes Computer key code program knowledge Ability to manually originate SFIC bitting chart and pin cores Monday - Friday 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM
All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. 
As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
