Overseen by the State Auditor, the OSA is an independent, nonpartisan staff agency within Colorado's Legislative Branch. The OSA's mission is to improve government for the people of Colorado. We are committed to promoting economical, effective, ethical, and equitable government. Our audits focus on reducing costs, improving the quality of services, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of information. We help the General Assembly fulfill its legislative oversight responsibilities by providing independent, objective, and thorough information about whether state agencies use their authority and public resources properly and in compliance with laws and regulations; whether government programs are achieving their objectives and desired outcomes; and whether state government services are provided effectively, efficiently, equitably, and ethically. The OSA employs approximately 80 professional staff organized into five divisions: Financial Audits, Performance Audits, IT Audits, Tax Expenditure Evaluations, and Local Government Audits. We are winners of National NLPES and NSAA awards for Excellence in Auditing, and winner of the Denver Business Journal's Healthiest Employer Award. Work Environment Primary work hours 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday  Hybrid - staff are required to work in office at least one day a week. Salary Range $57,469-$75,500

The  Local Government unit has two full time vacancies at the entry level or above . We are looking for Legislative Financial Auditors who are passionate about improving Colorado and committed to results. We need creative, flexible, results-oriented team players with strong analytical skills, keen investigative instincts, and exceptional communication and people skills.

In the role of Legislative Financial Auditor, you will be expected to:
Review local government audits and exemptions from audit applications for compliance with state regulations and accounting principles. Interact with multiple levels of state government to assess government financial performance, stewardship, and operations. Provide technical assistance and answer questions from local governments and CPAs. Analyze large volumes of information and data to evaluate agency financial activities in relation to statutes, regulations, fiscal rules, generally accepted accounting principles, and standards of program efficiency and effectiveness. Identify possible findings and recommendations in accordance with OSA guidelines. Have a strong aptitude for analytical thinking and problem solving, strong organizational, and technology skills. Demonstrate the ability to gather and organize information to formulate and support decisions and opinions. Effectively communicate at all levels in the organization. Have good interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams to achieve win/win solutions. Maintain effective working relationships; conflict resolution; self-initiative and self-motivation; and a high aptitude for learning about issues related to state government. Demonstrate ability, skills and aptitude to work independently, as well as working effectively as part of an audit team.  Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.  
Preferred Qualifications in addition to Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Accounting Current Colorado CPA Certificate Local government audit experience  Highly Desirable Experience: Ability to perform highly detailed work Knowledge of government auditing standards Willingness to serve the OSA in multiple roles on the audit team and within the office Commitment to ongoing development of auditing skills Understanding of State government structure Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational, time management and resources management skill Substitutions:  Master's degree in accounting can substitute for a bachelor's degree in finance, business or related degree . Progressively responsible work experience in external financial statement auditing specifically in government may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.  Conditions of Employment:
Must submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment background check. The Office of the State Auditor conducts background investigations for all final candidates being considered for employment. Background checks may include, but are not limited to, criminal history, national sex offender search and motor vehicle history.
State employee transfer applicants must disclose any corrective actions within the last 2 years and must currently be in good standing.
