EB Groton Shipyard Overview The Electronics Development Lab (EDL) provides engineering support for proof of concept mechanical prototypes, test boxes, custom built enclosures and modernizations on delivered submarines (Los Angeles, OHIO, SEAWOLF and VIRGINIA class). This organization solves problems and develops modifications (e.g. design improvements, upgrades) for qualification components as well as the active fleet. The EDL Model Shops talents and willingness to support the US Navy's submarine fleet makes the work important and exciting. Specific technical areas include: welding, incompressible (water and hydraulic) fluid systems, machining processes and multiple parts of mechanical systems (mechanisms, security brackets, etc.).
There are opportunities for local travel, and conduct hands-on support on board submarines, including on-deck assistance during shipboard modifications. The position will offer challenging technical tasks in a variety of areas.
Duties include, but are not limited to: performing calculations, material and equipment selection, preparing technical reports, reviewing drawings, interfacing with the Navy and shipboard reviews.
Responsibilities Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication (written and oral) skills. Applicant must be willing to support off-hours and weekends. Willingness/ability to work independently, well with others and on a team(s) and travel. Qualifications Required: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Knowledge of machining processes, mechanical systems, manufacturing technology, techniques and equipment. and strength of materials is required. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Applicant must be willing to occasionally support off-hours and weekends. Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense. Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel) Preferred: Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior Mechanical Engineering experience. Project management experience. Microsoft Access proficiency. PI********
