The Director of Montessori School of Pawleys Island (MSPI) should act as a collaborative leader within the school and the local community, working closely with, and directly reporting to, the Board of Directors. The Director will oversee all issues that concern the day-to-day operation of the school and will act as a liaison between board members, parents, teachers, other staff, and the community. The Director will enlist the support of our Montessori community in order to accomplish the goal of creating an environment that fosters the success of all students by facilitating the development, implementation, and evaluation of a shared vision of excellence in education firmly grounded in the Montessori philosophy. Every aspect of the school will be guided by Montessori principles, so it is vital that the Director understands and can articulate the essence of Montessori education.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor"s Degree; Masters Degree preferred.
Current Montessori certification preferred.
Experience as Head of School preferred.
Educational expertise including, but not limited to, knowledge of Montessori preschool and kindergarten curriculum.
Significant teaching experience in a Montessori school.
Leadership experience, demonstrating successful staff motivation, staff development, and working toward a common goal.
Significant management experience, including hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
Experience working with teachers, parents, and community organizations, with desire to strengthen community partnerships.
Experience/knowledge of administrative aspects of a Not-for-Profit organization; including, but not limited to: fiscal operations, buildings and grounds, operational aspects, maintaining HR and personnel files, and record keeping.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal ability.
Proficiency in current computer technology.
Responsibilities
Provides professional and administrative leadership.
Administers the implementation of the school"s mission and operating policy.
Recommends annual goals and can articulate a strong 5-10 year strategic plan to the Board of Directors.
Assists employees in the achievement of their job goals and continuing education opportunities.
Assumes responsibility for all employee hiring, training, staff development, scheduling, discipline, and termination.
Assumes responsibility for upkeep and renewal of all certifications, licensures, and policies.
Acts as an advocate for MSPI students, establishing a safe and positive school climate.
Responsible for managing the schools resources responsibly, determining the budget, monitoring revenue and expenditures, maintaining a healthy fiscal status and dealing with any issues that arise in a timely manner.
Takes an initiative in identifying fundraising, grant writing, or other opportunities to raise funds for the school.
Assists in planning and execution of fundraisers.
Leads the school in recruitment of new students and families, assists with marketing efforts.
Communicates with teaching staff on development of new and existing curriculum, implementing instructional programs to ensure compliance with the Montessori philosophy and any applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Serves as the DSS and DHEC liaison, keeping abreast of all policies and procedures and ensuring school compliance with all regulations.
Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities to collaborate with other Montessori educators at the local, state and/or national level.
Embraces the Board"s vision for MSPI and drives a culture of excellence in education.
Builds strong partnerships with parents and the community through consistent effective communication and outreach.
Remains informed of trends, legislation, and research that may affect MSPI management, operations, and policy.
Advises the Board on a regular basis regarding the status of all school operations and attends all Board meetings.
Performs other functions deemed reasonable and necessary by the Board of Directors
