JOB SUMMARY: The candidate selected for this position will join the IACUC Office to support the pre-approval and post-approval program areas for teaching and research activities involving vertebrate animals. The candidate will join a dedicated team working to ensure the humane treatment, welfare, and compliant use of animal subjects and will work with stakeholders involved in all aspects of the program by assisting in areas such as protocol development, protocol review, post approval monitoring, training, facility inspections, and reporting. Other duties as assigned.JOB DUTIES: 30% - Essential - Assist with pre-screening of IACUC applications and amendments; review for accuracy and completeness, identify potential risks, coordinate review with the Institutional BioSafety Committee (IBC) and/or Occupational and Environmental Safety (OES) for chemical review if needed. Route protocol applications, amendments, annual reports through the appropriate workflow for committee review. Provide reports through the protocol management system.
25% - Essential - Assist with post approval monitoring (PAM) activities; schedule, coordinate and participate in, document and ensure follow-up on PAM activities.
20% - Essential - Communicate with PI¿s and facility staff regarding protocol review and facilitate required modifications; guide PI¿s, staff, and students to appropriate training and medical surveillance enrollment. Provide communication to PI's and facility staff regarding PAM visits and findings.
15% - Essential - Participate in semiannual facility inspections on and off main campus; communicate findings with facility managers and document corrective actions. Attend IACUC meetings; prepare meeting minutes and agendas.
10% - Essential - Attend professional development trainings to continually update knowledge of animal welfare, regulations, and requirements. Regularly recall or refer to policy, guidance, or regulation to support requests or requirements of investigators, facility staff, and committee members. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education - Bachelor's Degree and relevant program experience
Work Experience 1+ years working with animals; basic understanding of animal welfare regulations and IACUC functions; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Education - Bachelor's Degree - Animal Science, Biology, or related field
Work Experience working with animals, as an animal care technician or as a veterinary technician
RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE
Fundamental Job Knowledge - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 20% - Stand for prolonged period

WORKING CONDITIONS: 10% - Exposure to heat or cold

Inspections of various facilities may involve the conditions listed above.
WORK SCHEDULE: Standard Hrs: 37.5
COMPENSATION INFORMATION Expected Salary Range ($ 47,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines .
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations. JOB LOCATION: Clemson, SC
