LSU Health Shreveport is seeking an engaging leader to serve as the Chair for the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana State University Health - Shreveport (LSUHS) is an esteemed academic medical center comprising the Schools of Medicine, Allied Health Professions, and Graduate Studies. Over 600 faculty, including a number of nationally and internationally acclaimed physicians and scientists, lead research efforts, educate students and provide primary and specialty care to patients throughout the region.  Faculty in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy play a crucial role in the education of Medical and Graduate Students, mentoring PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in cutting-edge research areas such as ischemic stroke, brain injury and neural degeneration, and cardiovascular pathophysiology. The department is recognized for its innovative approaches in cell and molecular biology, high-resolution microscopy, electrophysiology/patch clamping, and cellular metabolism studies.  In addition, faculty in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy are deeply involved in the Center for Brain Health (CBH) and the Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences (CCDS), contributing significantly to their research mission, and serving in leadership roles within these centers. This affiliation with the CBH and CCDS drives transdepartmental collaboration and supports faculty research through access to advanced core facilities and a variety of intramural grants. The successful candidate will have an established reputation as a scientist with strong research, academic, organizational, and team-building skills. The ideal candidate will provide an inspiring strategic vision for research in the department, actively foster a climate that is supportive of professional development and mentoring for faculty, students, and staff, and steer the department's future growth into new research domains.
Responsibilities of the Chair include: Strategic Leadership: Crafting and executing a strategic vision for the department. Academic Program Development: Enhancing current academic offerings and identifying new program opportunities that respond to the needs of students and the broader scientific community. Research Excellence: Promoting a culture of research excellence by supporting faculty in grants acquisition, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, and overseeing the publication of significant research findings. Faculty and Staff Development: Offering mentorship and support to faculty and staff members. Student Engagement: Ensuring an exceptional educational experience for students through curriculum development, innovative teaching methodologies, and facilitating student research and internship opportunities. Resource Management: Efficiently managing departmental resources. The successful candidate will possess: A Ph.D. in Cell Biology or a related field. A distinguished record of research and scholarly achievements in relevant areas, such as neuroscience and/or cardiovascular research. Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or research setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster diverse and collaborative teams.
