Licenses/Certifications Certification as a Billing and Coding Specialist, or willing to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
Education/Experience Education Required
Highschool Diploma Medical terminology Experience Required
At least two years of office experience in a healthcare related field Prior medical billing or healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred Detailed knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, and patient claims management Experience applying applicable HIPAA, Code of Conduct (Fraud, Waste and Abuse), and liability regulations and guidelines Experience Recommended
Strong, accurate data entry experience Job Duties Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the primary responsibility of the Billing Specialist is to review and process medical claims, reconcile payments, maintain account receivable history, and coordinate collection efforts. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely billing of clinical services while maintaining quality and productivity standards. This position will work with the clinical staff to ensure proper coding in the electronic medical records.
Understand full revenue cycle process for clinical services at the health department Has a full knowledge of the electronic medical record used for the department Review clinical documentation to identify proper coding for services provided to each patient Understand registration process for all patients, and educate support services staff when registration process errors occur Timely and accurate coding of diagnoses and services Reviews appropriate ICD -10-CM diagnosis codes Prepares electronic claims for submission to the appropriate payor Analyzes and resolves claim rejections and denials Prepares, reviews, and submits patient statements Answers patient questions, identifies and resolves patient billing inquiries. Follows and prepares reports for delinquent accounts Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Must be self-motivated, goal-oriented and take ownership of work Must have good verbal and written communication skills Must have positive interpersonal skills with the ability to function well within a cross-functional team setting Must have strong customer service skills To apply, please email resume and 3 professional references to EOE
