Responsibilities
• Diagnose and perform operational checks on vehicle systems and components• Conduct computerized and electronic diagnostic tests• Perform visual inspections and road tests• Provide technical guidance to lower-level employees• Perform maintenance and repairs resulting from preventive inspections• Prepare and update vehicle records• Perform engine tune-ups and adjust systems to prescribed tolerances• Troubleshoot and identify malfunctioning parts• Repair and replace major vehicle components• Follow safety practices and regulations
Requirements
• Knowledge of electrical/ignition, fuel systems, emission control, engine systems, power train, suspension, and braking systems• Ability to use technical reference materials and troubleshoot automotive components• Ability to use automotive and mechanical test equipment• Ability to make minor and major repairs to automotive systems• Completion of Postal Service tests 943 and 944• Valid driver's license and safe driving record• Physically able to perform duties of the position
