Assistant Professor without Tenure, Department of Pediatrics, The Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) School / Campus / College: School of Medicine Organization: Pediatrics, Infectious Disease Title: Assistant Professor without Tenure, Department of Pediatrics, The Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) Position The Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) in the Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is recruiting a full-time Assistant Professor (WOT) without tenure by reason of funding. SCRI and CGIDR are committed to providing a start-up package commensurate with candidates' experience and qualifications, including start-up resources and laboratory space, to promote the candidate's long-term success in the Department.
The successful applicant will join more than 20 CGIDR faculty-scientists to establish and lead an independent and extramurally- funded research program, actively collaborate with other faculty and scientists, and participate in teaching and mentoring graduate and postdoctoral students. The successful applicants' designated laboratories and offices will be located within the state-of-the-art facilities of the Research Institute ( centers-programs/ global-infectious- disease-research/ ).
CGIDR conducts transformative research that discovers new interventions to fulfill Seattle Children's mission of providing hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible. CGIDR is committed to a diverse, inclusive and collaborative departmental climate that optimizes our faculty's pursuit of solutions to some of science's most complex problems.
Applications are invited in any area of basic or translational laboratory- based research relevant to infectious diseases, including systems biology, cell biology, immunology, microbiology, or biotechnology. This position will demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism efforts in academia and research. The successful applicants will become members of the University of Washington faculty and engage in teaching, research and service.
This is a multi-year appointment over a 12-month service period [July 1-June 30], a full-time position that is open until filled with anticipated start dates of Summer 2022, but the start date is flexible. These positions are officially designated as "without tenure by reason of funding (WOT)", as are most appointments in the UW School of Medicine (and all CGIDR faculty). Faculty appointed WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University- administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds. Except for this distinction, WOT faculty members have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Qualifications Requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field or M.D. (or foreign equivalent). An M.D./Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable.
Candidates must have a record of research excellence and productivity in basic or translational laboratory- based infectious disease research.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Instructions Interested applicants should apply through the Interfolio link and should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research, diversity statement and contact information for 3 references. The diversity statement should address current or potential commitment to and experiences with equity, diversity, and inclusion.
