Job Summary: The person in this position will function independently and perform highly responsible financial tasks requiring the knowledge and application of accounting systems and financial policies and procedures for the University of Wisconsin and the International Division.
This position, under general supervision of the International Division financial officer, will perform and guide financial and accounting transactions for the International Division Dean's Office, carrying out work in multiple finance functional areas. This role will be responsible for auditing and approving financial transactions, reconciling data between systems, participating in day-to-day financial operations of the division to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reports, and guiding other financial and departmental staff. The position will recommend fiscal policies and participate in development and implementation of new systems and processes to improve customer service, efficiencies, and internal controls. This is a dynamic role that helps a diverse group of departments navigate the financial landscape at UW-Madison.
Responsibilities: Performs general accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions. 20% Organizes, prepares, and updates basic financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions 10% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements basic solutions as needed 20% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports 20% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures 10% Assists in preparing budgets and financial projections 20% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments Tasks: Assist with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports. Perform journal entries of internal transfer transactions for payments and expenses accounts. Answer questions and provide accounting-related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures. Back-up and E-reimbursement approver and E-reimbursement auditor as necessary. Prepare as needed or backup approver for Cost Transfers, Direct Payments, Payment to Individual Reports, Requisitions, eReimbursement reports, and pCard changes forms. Act as a liaison with UW-Madison Accounting and Purchasing. Submit tuition payments to Bursar's office. Other backup and duties or special projects as assigned. Education: Required
Associate's Degree
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
Qualifications: Required:
1. Demonstrated experience with financial systems software, and preparation of financial reports and data.
2. Ability to interpret and apply complex university, state, federal, and granting agency rules, regulations, and guidelines.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
4. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
5. Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
6. Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to positively interact with a variety of people and or work independently to meet goals and work assignments.
Preferred:
1. Three years in Accounting or Finance.
2. Knowledge of UW, State, and Federal rules and regulations and/or experience managing finances within an institution of higher education.
3. Ability to interpret policies and regulations and apply them to practical situations and to exercise good judgment in recognizing where deviation from standard policies or processes may be appropriate.
4. Experience with UW's financial systems: JET, SFS, WISER, ShopUW+.
5. Strong analytical skills and the ability to organize, interpret, and analyze financial data.
6. Ability to independently determine priorities, resolve problems, and stay on task and deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment. Ability to represent the office in a highly professional manner.
7. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner both independently and collaboratively, gathering and analyzing relevant information, and developing alternative solutions.
Work Type: Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable

Salary: Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

This is a full-time appointment. Salary to be determined based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package, including but not limited to generous leave and paid holidays, as well as health insurance.
