Full job description Organization and Position Overview The Food + Farm Exploration Center (Exploration Center), in partnership with Farming for the Future Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to educate current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. The Exploration Center will promote agricultural literacy, increase the understanding of the origins of food, and deepen the relationship between farmers and consumers. The Exploration Center will be a state-of-the-art manifestation of the Foundation's educational mission. It will be a centralized place for people to come together on a journey into the world of modern agriculture, meet the people behind food production, build science and engineering skills, connect, play, and learn. It will be a teaching farm, a children's museum, a science center, and a community workshop all rolled into a tantalizing celebration of food and farming. The Exploration Center will create common ground where people can learn directly from the industry. It is important for people to know where their food comes from, and farmers are eager to share those stories. Located in Plover Wisconsin, the Exploration Center will be the cornerstone of innovation and exploration as it relates to food grown for human consumption.
The Sanitation Specialist will report directly to the Operations & Exhibits Director, developing the Exploration Center cleaning protocols and implementing long-term strategies ensuring that the Center and grounds are always clean and orderly in order to project excellence to all visitors and employees. The Sanitation Specialist will possess a positive and creative approach. The ability to be a part of a highly functional team with enthusiasm and professionalism is required. We have both full-time and part-time positions available.
Essential Responsibilities Develop and follow the Center's cleaning protocols in all areas of the facility. Perform tasks including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, washing windows and removing and disposing of trash and recycled materials in appropriate receptacles. Maintain stock of sanitation supplies by performing weekly inventory and communicating ordering needs. Interact with guests in a friendly manner, answer questions and provide good customer service. Participate in outdoor grounds maintenance including weeding, mowing, trimming, landscape maintenance, and snow removal as needed. On occasion, perform deep cleaning tasks. Assist with event space setup, tear down, pre-event and post-event cleaning as needed. Cleaning in a commercial kitchen will be required. Maintain clean bathrooms by regularly inspecting and cleaning as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Personality Committed to safety and excellence. Aka: Humility. Physical Demands Able to stand and sit for long periods of time. Ability to climb ladders. Other physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders, lifting of up to 50 lbs., twisting, lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects such as furniture, file cabinets, equipment, boxes, etc. Ability to operate landscaping equipment/mowers for 8 hours. Evenings and weekends will be required. Work schedule will be 2nd shift, rotating Wednesdays-Sundays, 3 days/week. Desired time is 2PM-10PM, but flexible. Qualifications and Experiences 3-5 years of responsibility and demonstrated success in facility sanitation/custodial services. Experience with non-profit and/or educational organizations. Self-starter with a demonstrated strong work ethic. Must possess ability to prioritize and problem solve. Aptitude to work in a cross-functional organization. Motivated by change, growth, and the unknown.
