Description
The Waupun Area School District has an opening for a full-time Special Education Aide for the 2023-24 school year at Meadow View Primary School. The position is full time 7:45am - 3:30pm and includes benefits. This position will support special education students with a variety of academic and behavioral support needs in the general education setting (including music, PE, art, etc.) as well as at recess and lunch. Due to the nature of this assignment, regular attendance is imperative. The Waupun Area School District is a 4K-12 school district serving a population of 1900 students in South Central Wisconsin. Located conveniently on Hwy 151, Waupun is only 45 minutes north of Madison and 20 minutes south of Fond du Lac. WASD is home to four schools, including a charter school in Fox Lake. The Waupun Area School District consists of Meadow View Primary School (grades 4K-1), Rock River Intermediate School (grades 2-6), the Junior/Senior High School (grades 7-12), and SAGES Charter School (Fox Lake, grades 4K-6). Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position meets the following requirements: •has had previous success working with students with disabilities, particularly students with behavioral and/or intellectual disabilities •is able to develop rapport and maintain positive interactions with students and staff •is able to utilize effective instructional strategies (academic and behavioral) to increase and reinforce student learning in small group, large group, and 1-on-1 settings •is self-motivated and self-directed (is able to complete required tasks independently, with little or no direct assistance from the supervising teacher) •is flexible and able to adapt to change easily and readily •is able to work collaboratively with general education teams, and take direction/work in collaboration with special education teacher/case manager •must be computer literate and willing to expand technology-related skills •ability to set limits and follow-through with consequences •ability to develop a rewards/positive incentives system and collect behavioral data •has excellent behavior management skills and a has a niche for working with unmotivated/difficult students •has been trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (preferred) or willing to be trained •recent training in behavior management and/or mental illness (preferred) •can accept constructive feedback and suggestions positively •possible responsibilities of lunchroom and recess supervision •perform other duties as assigned without hesitation This position does require a minimum of a high school diploma. If position is in a Title 1 School, minimum of 48 credits of post-secondary education or an associate's degree. Candidate must be willing to fulfill DPI Title 1 requirements if minimum education requirements has not been met. DPI special education license must be obtained within one month of hire.
