Summary Client is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our small and vibrant accounting team, with a great culture, based in Salem, Oregon. They would supervise accounting/finance staff, coordinate with outside professionals for various tax filings, actively execute and monitor risks and internal controls over accounting and financial reporting, and actively interact and assist product group leaders with requested financial and operational projects. In execution of their role, they would work closely with the Accounting Manager, VP & Controller and SVP & Chief Financial Officer, as well as other professionals across our organization.
Primary Responsibilities Conduct accounting & financial reporting for on a statutory basis. (Prior experience with statutory accounting is not required.) Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports. Prepare and supervise monthly accrual and prepaid journal entries, reconciliation, and variance analysis. Responsible for reinsurance tracking, billing, and payment. Prepare and reconcile inter-company transactions. Supervise & evaluate accounting department staff, as appropriate. Prepare federal and state 1099s annually. Oversee Personal Property tax reporting including tracking additions/disposals and physical inventory. Oversee fixed asset accounting process and completion. Oversee a physical inventory annually. Assist in the annual audit. Assist in Department of Insurance examinations. Assist in collection of materials for rating agencies (e.g., AM Best and Kroll). Work with department managers within the company to improve processes, resolve issues, and implement new procedures as necessary. Additional Responsibilities Assist with internal control and risk management activities & projects. Assist in researching and analyzing accounting, financial and tax issues. Assist in the annual budgeting process. Assist with preparation & support of income tax return. Assist with training the accounting/finance staff. Initiate, lead, and/or assist with Adaptable, Innovative, and Resilient (AIR) initiatives. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Knowledge and Skill Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience Minimum 3-5 years public accounting experience or 5-8 years corporate accounting experience Financial reporting preparation experience required CPA or CPA Candidate, preferred Willingness to learn and implement Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) Working knowledge of corporate tax a plus Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Advanced level computer skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software Excellent written and verbal communication skills Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $82,000.00 - $87,000.00 per year
