Responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring, understanding blood work re sults, monitoring, teaching, and training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Competent delivery of all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedure s per department policy and procedures Verify Respiratory Care physicians' orders. Initial, date, and time order after verification Receive and give accurate and complete report . Update and complete patient profile card to reflect patient's current clinica l status. Be prepared and ready to receive/give report at the specified report times Attend and participate in department inservices , meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory meetings Keep Supervisor appraised of changes in work load and patient acuity Enter all daily services and charges given to patients Demonstrate excellent working knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment Perform troubleshooting with appropriate problem resolution Perform effective airway management to include bag/mas k ventilation Assist physician/intubation certified therapist with intubation Demonstrate safe and appropriate suction techniques and use of artificial airways Initiate and perform "CPR". Primarily responsible for airway management Initiate, maintain , mo nitor and document continuous mechanical ventilation Provide timely and accurate update information to the physicians and other hospital personnel Make recommendations for changes or modification of patient therapy by contacting physicians Assist in orientation/training of new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precept new employees during orientation Understand and institute advanced venti lator modalities Effectively discuss advanced respiratory pathophysiology with physicians and can implement changes based on patient condition Perform arterial blood gas sampling Initiate maintain and monitor ventilator patients Evaluate chest x-ray for endotracheal p lacement and other clinical conditions optimizing Respiratory Care delivery Complete required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirement Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for prot ection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients ser ved within the unit Ability to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situations Understands principles of growth and development for the entire lifespan with the ability to provide care appropriate for adult and geriatric patients as approp riate to the patient population TALENT: Relationship Building Have a caring attitude and sincere interest in others

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: As required for attainment of Certification or Regis try by National Board of Respiratory Care. Current Certification of Respiratory Therapy or credential as Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care Current licensure from state licensure agency Must maintain currency of NBR C, credential, ACLS Certification, BLS Certification and State license BLS Certification JOB TRAINING: How long it usually takes to completely perform this job when the incumbent has the minimum knowledge, skills, ability, work experience and/or education: up to 3 months WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moves intermittently during working hours Is subject to frequent in terruptions Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekend s, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.) Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses May be subject to the handling of and exposure t o hazardous chemicals Drives frequently in company or personal automobile Uses computer and cellular telephone frequently Consistently demonstrates Guest Relation's skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees and any other individuals with whom the y may come in contact Consistently follows the health, safety, security, hazardous materials policies and procedures OTHER: This is a full-time position with benefits Must maintain a valid, unrestricted Colorado driver's license Classification: non-exempt We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, Gender/Minority/Veterans/Disabled.
