POSITION TITLE: Public Relations and Marketing Specialist
Department: Birmingham Shopping District (BSD)
Reports To: BSD Executive Director
Status: Part-Time 30-hours/week
Affiliation: Non-Union Admin/Management
Pay Grade: $26.96 - $34.51/hour
Location: In-Office, City of Birmingham City Hall
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the BSD Executive Director, this position is responsible for developing, managing and implementing the BSD's overall communications, marketing and advertising campaigns and programs. This position will manage media, publications, websites, social media and other marketing and public relations initiatives. Successful candidates must exhibit independent judgement, initiative and deep knowledge of marketing and public relations management.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not to be treated as all inclusive. Developing and managing robust communications, public relations, media, marketing and advertising strategies, plans and budgets. Content development, design direction, management, marketing and placement of multi-media campaigns and strategies including (but not limited to): Digital: social media, website, digital publications, digital display advertising Print: publications, articles and advertisement Business recruitment materials, toolkits and other resources Internal materials, reports and contract development Coordinate public relations activities including media and influencer relationship and list management, media appearances/segments for TV, radio, and others, writing and distributing media/press releases, and other communications, and responding to media inquiries and interviews. Monitor, analyze and report marketing and public relations activity results as directed. Attend committee and other BSD-related meetings as requested and assist with preparation, presentation and reporting efforts. Coordinate photography and videography requests and resources on a monthly basis. Assist Executive Director with business recruitment and retention as requested. Attend BSD events and activities, assisting as needed, that may occur outside of normal business hours. NECESSARY SKILLS: Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Strong experience with social media. Strong experience with scheduling tools, MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe, Canva, and standard knowledge of CRM and CMS tools. Ability to multi-task, organize work plans, meet deadlines and complete complex administrative functions. Ability to work independently under general supervision/direction, and work effectively in a team environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Relations, Journalism, or related. At least 5 years of professional work experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or related. Downtown management and municipal experience preferred. Knowledge of principles and practices of modern marketing, public relations and promotional techniques.
