PAGE DESIGNER Location Albuquerque, NM (Alameda N Valley area) : Description: The Albuquerque Journal, New Mexico's largest daily newspaper, is hiring for a page designer. We are looking for someone proficient with InDesign. Any experience with Photoshop, Illustrator or BLOX CMS is desirable. The page designer is responsible for the appearance of the print paper: Cover designs involve displaying stories according to importance, using typography, headline hierarchy and displaying art to its best advantage. Features pages may involve art typography, photo manipulation and illustration.
Designers are responsible for maintaining Journal style and branding - they must know which fonts/typefaces are allowed, use the correct spacing, and know wat type treatments are appropriate in a variety of situations.
Some graphics work is required. Designers may be asked to rewrite headlines, adjust captions, trim wire stories and/or proofread as needed. Good spelling and grammar are a must, and individuals should keep up with current events.
Responsibilities: Conceptualize and design compelling layouts for newspaper articles, advertisements, and special features, adhering to brand guidelines and editorial standards. Develop original graphics, illustrations, charts, and infographics to accompany editorial content and enhance reader comprehension. Work closely with editors, writers, and photographers to ensure visual elements effectively complement written content and convey key messages. Select, edit, and retouch photographs for publication, ensuring high quality and relevance to the content. Keep abreast of industry trends, design techniques, and emerging technologies to continuously improve the visual appeal and relevance of our newspaper. Assist in the creation of advertisements for local businesses, incorporating client specifications while maintaining the newspaper's aesthetic standards. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality designs within specified deadlines. Organize and maintain a library of design assets, including fonts, templates, and graphics, for efficient reuse and consistency across editions. Requirements: 2+ years of professional experience in graphic design, preferably in print media or publishing. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), BLOX CMS and other relevant design tools. Strong creative vision and ability to translate concepts into visually appealing designs. Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and feedback to team members. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. A portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design work, including layout designs, illustrations, and other relevant projects. Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field is preferred.
