The Life Skills Specialist's role it to assist clients develop and/or strengthen critical life management skills that may never have been learned or have been lost during the course of physical or mental illness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and homelessness. The goal is to assist clients to function independently in the community and maintain their housing.

Preference will be given to persons in recovery from mental illness and homelessness. These services may be provided by a peer specialist who has been a recipient of mental health services and/or homelessness whose personal experiences of recovery provide a level of authenticity and understanding of the client's experience that is unique. Their personal experience with mental illness/wellness, substance abuse, homelessness, the social services system, families, social communities, etc. coupled with specialized training and self-sufficiency make them uniquely qualified for the position.
Life Skills Specialists work collaboratively with case managers to assist clients in managing stable housing, safety & self-sufficiency, and recovery goals. Services are provided are based on a client's individual goals but may include but are not limited to budgeting, basic household management skills, conflict management, grocery shopping, basic nutrition, use of public transportation, illness management and 12-step follow-through, and medication management.
Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA requirements. Completes all documentation in a timely manner consistent with program guidelines. A valid drivers license and personal vehicle are required as Life Skills Specialists regularly transport clients to appointments.
