Position Description Reporting to the Director, Human Resources and Administration, the HR Generalist serves as a resource to staff and is responsible for the daily maintenance of foundation policies, procedures, and practices including recruitment, benefits, compliance, compensation, worker's compensation, unemployment, training programs, implementation and administration of policies and procedures, and culture and morale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Benefits Administration Manage the benefits administration including health, dental, and vision insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, long-term and short-term disabilities, workers' compensation, and COBRA for former employees.Serve as primary contact and maintain positive relationships with plan vendors and third-party administrators.Manage annual open enrollment presentation to staff; document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment, and summary plan descriptions. Provide training and support staff as needed.Educate and advise employees on changes and developments related to benefits, including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.Prepare data for annual benchmarking surveys.People and Culture Manage all aspects of the recruitment process, including the job posting and candidate search, applicant and process tracking, screenings and reference checks, and interview scheduling.Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for incoming staff, including benefits and payroll enrollment, and coordinate orientation meetings and necessary training.Serve as a trusted advisor to employees with the interpretation and implementation of HR and Operations policies and procedures; answer questions and provide information and advice about the workplace.Proactively engage employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention; communicate openly and frequently, keeping staff informed on benefit resources, organizational events, and other pertinent information.Lead the Milestone Committee, maintaining a well-organized and communicated calendar of events, actions, and experiences for employees both in person and virtually.Payroll and Administration Ensure timely and accurate processing of domestic and international payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions; ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates; assist staff concerns regarding how deductions or tax changes can affect their net pay by running scenarios.Serves as the payroll administrator and maintains the accuracy of employee records (i.e.: Form I-9, address updates, direct deposit updates, emergency contacts, and withholding taxes).Prepare and distribute annual merit letters and Total Compensation reports.Manage the Arcus HRIS, BambooHR, ensuring that employee data and time tracking are maintained and updated.Maintain and update records, conducting periodic audits of electronic staff records and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance.Maintain and track employees' time off for short-term disability status; calculate and accrue year-end paid time off and carry-over balances.Process unemployment, employee verifications, workers' compensation, and Department of Labor inquiriesImplement and manage new systems, processes, and/or integrationsResearch, analyze data, generate reports, and provide general HR and operations support to the Director of HR and Administration.Participate in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; assist with preparing and maintaining the employee handbook to improve the compliance posture of the organization.Learning and Professional Development Active membership with the Society for Human Resource Professionals (SHRM)Attendance of annual SHRM conference (as timing and budget permits)Identify and implement training programs aimed at supporting management, skill-building, and performance improvement.Qualifications and Competencies The ideal candidate brings a desire to learn, innovate, and take risks, and the ability to find joy even in tough moments. 3-5 years of proven experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience working in Human Resources; nonprofit or philanthropic sector experience preferred.Experience with benefits administration, including coordinating day-to-day benefits processing (i.e., enrollments, terminations, and claims), resolving benefit-related issues, and responding to queries and requests; PEO experience is a plus.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and keen attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to compose eloquent and comprehensive communications.Strong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to analyze problems, gather pertinent data and recommend solutions.Experience working with HRIS systems.Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite; advanced proficiency with PowerPoint and/or other presentation and design software a plus.Ability to travel, as needed.Location and Travel The HR Generalist position is based out of our New York City office, located at 445 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10016. Arcus staff work on a hybrid schedule of three days in-office (Tuesday–Thursday), with the option of working two days remotely. The general office hours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. 
On occasion, you may be asked to travel domestically for conferences and/or foundation gatherings and events, approximately 5% of the time.
Compensation The Human Resources Generalist role is a 40-hour week/full-time, exempt position with an annual salary that ranges from $95,000 - $110,000. In addition to salary, Arcus Foundation offers a robust benefits package that includes:
