The COLUMBIA Class Test Equipment Development group provides engineering support for the test programs supporting ships systems pertaining to Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) and portions of the Steam and Electric Plant (S&EP). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work with Design and Materials groups to develop (or revise existing) Engineered Drawings that meet test procedure or ship's system requirements. Drawing development may require interface with system engineers, EB Trades, Vendors, Purchasing, Program Office, Facilities and Ship's Management. Design or aid in the procurement of temporary support systems to provide temporary services to ship's systems. Selection of portable electrical test equipment to meet test procedure requirements. Selection requires interfacing with Metrology to ensure appropriate calibration services can be provided. Troubleshoot and guide the repair and modernization of pumps, heaters and other service equipment. Develop a high level understanding of all shipboard systems in order to provide engineering support during all phases of construction. Provide technical guidance and urgent deck plate support to the shipyard test organization for resolving test issues in Groton, QP and the SWS Ashore facility. Develop disclosures in TeamCenter to support the COLUMBIA program. Create VREQs and provide dispositions for VIRs for material pertaining to drawings under the group's cognizance. Occasional extended hours and weekends may be required to support emergent work. Occasional travel to Quonset Point and other facilities may be required. The ideal candidate is one who enjoys working in a fast paced environment, welcomes constant interaction with the trades and is eager to provide deck plate support and learn more about the submarines that are built.
Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related engineering degree (Electrical preferred). Candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel). Preferred: Deck plate experience testing and/or troubleshooting electrical systems Experience sizing circuit conductors, over current protection devices, transformers, motor controllers, etc. Experience with layout and fabrication of electrical equipment enclosures Knowledge of NFPA 70 Electrical codes and submarine electrical installation methods Familiarity with NFPA 70E and IEC 61010-1 safety standards Experience using and navigating in Teamcenter and the Design process Directives (DpD) is a plus
Skills: Applicant must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and perform independently from the core organization while handling several different tasks. This position requires the candidate to work with multiple EB design engineering and waterfront engineering organizations and must have good interpersonal skills and attention to details.
