GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To help facilitate and/or lead:
Lower grades dyslexia screening  Lower grades math and reading assessments Small group literacy, math, organization, and assignment support in grades 1-8 REPORTS TO: The Pedagogical Director and the Educational Support Specialist
HOURS WORKED: Full time; exempt; usual hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m or 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends. Report to school 46 weeks per year. The academic year begins July 1st and ends June 30th.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and student support Consults with the Pedagogical Director, faculty, and Educational Support team and makes referrals as needed regarding children needing outside evaluation and/or intervention services.  Plans and executes individual and small-group activities that are developmentally appropriate and correspond with the goals set for individual children. Brings children of concern to the Educational Support team and the class teacher for consultation and recommendation. Arranges a substitute to cover classes or seeks support from the Educational Support Specialist and Pedagogical Director in case of personal absence. Space use, supplies, and budget Keeps classrooms, storage areas, faculty room, and common areas neat and clutter free. Ensures that the students are supplied with all needed materials and supplies. Makes appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage. Keeps expenses within yearly budget. Assessments, reports, and communications Maintains child behavior observation notes to be used for parent-teacher conferences, year-end reports and assessment completions. Observes and assesses students as needed, and works with the class teacher to create and implement Personal Educational Plans (PEPs). Maintains complete and accurate child files, forms, and reports within allotted timelines to document and track the needs of children and services provided. Communicates with parents regarding the results of observation and assessment as needed. Responsible for communicating and coordinating with appropriate teachers regarding child behavior, parent education, and reports. Year-end reports for students are to be provided to families by July 15th, or end day of employment. Work with parents, outreach, and community building Attend parent meetings as needed. Provide parent education in line with shared faculty agreements on topics related to specific grades, as well as proactive topics. Welcome prospective parents and students visiting classes during tours. Summer work and accessibility Assures all training and preparatory work for curriculum and classrooms should be completed.  Reports to school by August 15th for mandatory in-service and classroom preparation for the first day of school. Be available for communication and meetings with prospective students, or delegate acceptance authority to the Pedagogical Director and Enrollment Director. SCHOOL PARTICIPATION AND TEAMWORK Arrives at work on time, punctually attends and actively participates in all required meetings and training including committee work. Be a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member and participant in school activities. Attends faculty, grades, and committee meetings. Attends, but not limited to, open houses, Journey through the Grades, and Winter Faire. Participates in in-service days during the year and at the beginning and end of the school year. Be responsible for daily playground and recess supervision. Adhere to a professional code of conduct. Logs in time-offs and sick leave monthly. Respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other school operations. TRAINING Develop professional work goals, training, and mentoring plan for self. Attend the February Teacher's Conference and observation day, or submit a proposal for alternate professional development in consultation with the professional development committee and pedagogical director. Continue taking education/training for working with students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, etc. Be aware of, and adhere to, current state and federal laws that affect educators. QUALIFICATIONS: Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team. Must have a commitment to self-development. Must pass a criminal background check. Must have a first aid card within two months of being hired. Must have current CPR training within two months of being hired.
