The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Officeconsists of a Command Staff, an Administrative Services Division, and an OperationsDivision. Court Security works withinthe Operations Division.
The Court Security Officer is a specially commissionedposition that provides first line security for Court Houses and adjacent areas. The Court Security Officer shall ensure thatall people entering Walla Walla County Court House are screened for prohibiteditems, not allowing prohibited items to be brought into Court Room foyerareas. They must remain alert andfocused on all activity in the controlled area. Be aware of the comings and goings of visitors; in an effort to noticepatterns of behavior that could be concerning. Court Security Officers must bephysically and psychologically capable of defending self, or others, inconfrontations when a dangerous situation presents itself or with uncooperativeindividuals.
RequiredEducation and Experience Qualification: Two years of certified corrections or certified law enforcementexperience required. Related relevant experience will be considered. Applicantsmust possess a high school diploma or equivalent. AA degree, or higher, ispreferred. Other Minimum Qualifications: · Must be UnitedState citizen or a lawful permanent resident who can read and write theEnglish language.
· Be a minimum oftwenty-one (21) years of age.
· Mustsatisfactorily pass a Civil Service approved written examination and oral boardinterview.
· Mustsatisfactorily pass a Sheriff's Office background investigation and a criminaljustice records check.
· Successfullydemonstrate handgun proficiency and appropriately carry said weapon while onduty.
· Must have norecord of gross misdemeanor/misdemeanor conviction for crime involvingcontrolled substances or physical harm.
· Must have norecord of felony conviction.
· Must possess, orhave the ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid driver's license andvehicle insurance coverage.
The SuccessfulCandidate Shall: · Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with courthouse staff and the law enforcement community.
· Ability to develop and maintain positive interactions with the public andcommunity.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Demonstrate a highlevel of accuracy and close attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Take an activepart in all ongoing training programs as requested or required.
· Demonstrate theability to be confidential.
· Be able to workadditional hours as required.
Responsible to: Undersheriff Salaryand Benefits: Fulltime (40 hours a week). $22.66 - $30.37an hour, (DOE). No benefits other thanthose required by State law.
