60%: Communications
Research, write, fact-check, and publish features, profiles, and Q&As, illuminating people, ideas, and outcomes in "engineering in medicine." Prepare quick-hit announcements, research briefs, and the occasional press release as indicated in communications plans and IEM's overarching strategic plans. Collaborate with the digital and multimedia manager to ensure written stories include visually engaging media. Also, partner with the digital and multimedia manager on other forms of storytelling. Work with the IEM Communications Manager and Senior Editor to draft, revise, fact-check, and proof IEM's monthly newsletter. Set social media strategy, objectives, and metrics along with the Communications Manager Establish best practices, design and content standards, and collaboration mechanisms for all IEM communications. Advise IEM colleagues on communications strategies. Monitor the media landscape, following local, regional, and national coverage, sharing stories of interest and advising on opportunities. Help write editorial calendars for various communications projects. Collaborate with the Medical School communications group, the CSE communications group, and other communications professionals throughout the University to identify and develop content in alignment with IEM's editorial calendar and goals. Follow science communication and storytelling trends, develop your skills, and bring your insights and ideas back to your team and work. 40%: Communications and Outreach projects
Support IEM events focusing primarily on internal and external communications. Events include Innovation Week events, Clinical Immersions, the Inspire Conference, BMDC and VHL events, the Otto Schmitt Lecture, and others. Coordinating and executing events that strengthen the collaborative efforts between IEM, the disciplines of engineering and biomedicine at the University of Minnesota, and the medical device industry.
Specific event logistics duties could include;
Contracts with internal and external vendors for venues, photographers, AV, videographers, caterers, others Financial management of payments and reimbursements via pcard, tcard, POs, non-PO payments, invoices Travel awards Poster submissions Poster judges Poster awards Printing services Volunteers Speakers Sponsors Destiny One registration system, credit card processing via Clover Digital and print materials, signage. Located on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, the Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM) at the University of Minnesota is an interdisciplinary research organization committed to improving and streamlining healthcare by strengthening collaboration between the disciplines of engineering and medicine.
