The Section for Long-Term Care seeks to help protect the health and safety of elderly and disabled individuals residing in long term care facilities. This professional position serves as both a member of a multi-disciplinary team to survey long-term care facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations, and as an independent complaint investigator. This position will qualify for remote work once training is complete.
Conduct surveys, licensure inspections, complaint investigations, and other activities as assigned and in accordance with federal and state policies and procedures. After successful completion of training requirements, conduct the Life Safety Code inspection process, including evaluation of building construction, fire protection systems, and operational features that provide safety from fire, smoke, and general panic during emergencies. Monitor care provided to individuals residing in long term care facilities to ensure the quality of life and quality of care received meets state and federal regulatory standards. Communicate information, both verbally and in writing, in a manner that is understandable, legible, professional, courteous, respectful and consistent with regulatory requirements. Perform duties in a manner that is respectful of individual's space and preferences. Attend scheduled team meetings, assume a fair share of the workload, and accept on-call duty as assigned on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis, which may require a visit to a facility to investigate a high priority complaint during the on-call time. Present relevant information necessary to identify regulatory violations and determine compliance as a team. Ensure deficiencies cited are based on facts, include more than one source of evidence whenever possible, and clearly support the regulation cited. Travel will be required with possible overnight stays and overtime. Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills with residents, providers, and the public is an essential component of this position. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 earned credit hours in social or behavioral sciences; Environmental Science or Technology; biological, chemical, or sanitary sciences; Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Industrial Safety; Education; Physical Rehabilitation; Habilitation; Gerontology; Counseling; Physical, Occupational, Recreational, Music, or Speech Therapy; Nutrition or Dietetics; Public Health, Business, Public, or Health Care Administration; or Adjunctive Therapy; (Substitutions may be allowed) and, Two or more years of professional experience in the areas of social work; mental health; sanitary inspection; environmental control; physical rehabilitation; habilitation; physical, occupational, recreational, music, or speech therapy; dietetics, foods, and nutrition; and/or health care facility surveying, licensed nursing home administration, or fire and safety inspection. (Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the stated experience at a rate of 24 earned credit hours for one year of experience.) Candidates must meet the qualifications for a Long Term Care Surveyor available at Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
