Overview
Animal Resources Technician I (Behavioral) performs a variety of tasks related to the implementation and maintenance of the behavioral management program for nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species as directed by the Behavioral Management Services Supervisor. Tasks include but are not limited to: Organizes and performs technical duties, such as preparation, maintenance and distribution of enrichment materials, devices and equipment. Designs, develops and tests enrichment techniques, new ideas for enhancing captive environments, and interventions in terms of practicality, use by animals, and efficacy for improving behavior. Identifies animals that are in need to specialized intervention for observed behavioral problems and implements intervention practices to improve behavior. Collects observational data for behavioral studies. Performs positive reinforcement training. Determines potential non-human primate and other laboratory animal species social partners, completes social introductions, monitors progress and makes decisions about outcomes of introductions. Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or one year of demonstrated work experience.
Requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Experience with pole/collar conditioning required.
Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity. Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment. A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required. Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
