The Department of Consumer and Business Services
(DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. This position is with the Building Codes Division
(BCD). BCD adopts and enforces the statewide building code relating to the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures and the installation of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices and equipment. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union (AFSCME).

This position is eligible for hybrid remote work
on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required. Here's what you will do:
As an Accountant, you will monitor multi-faceted accounting system including division disbursements, whether through accounts payable or petty cash; division accounts receivable; revenue transactions for immediate response to customers; and complex month-end revenue reconciliation and reporting, as well as expenditure and fund accounting activities for the Building Codes Division.

. Here's what you need to qualify:
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate
OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting
OR
Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university
OR
32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in Accounting from an accredited institution AND two years of technical, para- professional accounting experience to include: a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts and account relationships resulting in accounting entries

Requested Skills:
Experience in interpreting and applying federal and state, rules and requirements, accounting policies and principles, and statewide and agency policies and procedures
Familiarity with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience tracking revenue and expenses by program or funding source
Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service
Strong analytical ability and attention to detail
Organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
