Position SummaryThe Sports Business MBA Program Coordinator serves as a staff member in the Fowler College of Business assigned to the Specialized & International Programs, Sports Business MBA Program. The position has significant responsibility for the administrative and support services of this fast-paced, dynamic, customer-service oriented program. The SMBA Program Department Coordinator works closely with the program director in a wide variety of areas including but not limited to marketing & recruiting; on campus and online information sessions; prospective student support; pre-screening of applicants; application process & follow-up; admissions and enrollment; academic scheduling; program support; classroom support; student support; faculty support; office support; graduation and alumni relations. The SMBA Program Department Coordinator uses independent decision-making in solving and troubleshooting problems as they arise and interacts with and provides a high level of support to various constituents and groups including students, alumni, faculty, sports business executives and other special guests, representatives from university divisions and auxiliaries as well as the general public. The incumbent needs to be knowledgeable about the business of sports in San Diego and beyond, and is responsible for arranging field trips to sports facilities and arranging visits to campus from sports executives. They will use all forms of communication in order to successfully perform the work (phone, email,, mail, social media, etc.).This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.Department SummaryThe Fowler College of Business offers a variety of programs, including an undergraduate and graduate degree in business administration and specialized masters degree programs. The college also houses several centers: the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, the Corky McMillin Center for Real Estate, the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business, the Corporate Governance Institute, the Institute for Inclusion and Diversity, the Center for Integrated Marketing Communication, the James Silberrad Brown Center for Artificial Intelligence and the Aztec Consulting Center, which are critical for the implementation of its strategic plan.The Specialized & International Programs office is a very fast paced academic environment that manages self-supported specialized and international programs within the College of Business Administration. The intensive Sports Business Master of Business Administration program is focused entirely on the international business of sports in an 18-month, accelerated format. This degree is intended for highly motivated students seeking to further their business skills and professional network to secure management positions in all areas of the global sports business industry.For more information regarding the Sports Business MBA Program in the Fowler College of Business, click here .Education and ExperienceEntry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.Key Qualifications2 years of office experience is preferred.Proficiency with Google platforms (Drive, Calendar, etc.).Proficiency with MS Office programs.Basic knowledge of the sports industry is preferred. Experience in event management.Excellent customer service skills.Experience with email marketing or CRM (Salesforce, Pardot, MyEmma or other) platforms is preferred. Professional social media experience with Instagram,LinkedIn, Facebook, et al.Basic understanding of graphic design (via Adobe Creative Suite or similar) is preferred.Strong writing ability (to produce web articles including speaker/event recaps) is preferred.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,100 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
