Students develop a set of skills for applying broad, integrative perspectives to themselves and others. Through training in anthropology, students also acquire the ability to formulate theoretical and practical questions regarding human life, collect and organize data on many levels of human biology and behavior, and construct appropriate interpretations and generalizations based on well thought-out procedures. The combination of knowledge about human ways of life and training in analytical skills are crucial to any field dealing with human society and culture. This perspective is invaluable in preparing students for careers in research professions or in a wide range of professional fields, including cultural resources management, environmental planning, teaching, public health administration, business, public relations, law, community development, and international service.The Anthropology Department offers a B.A. in Anthropology, a minor in Anthropology, an M.A. in Cultural Resources Management (CRM), and a B.A. in Human Development. Committed to an integrated, four-field approach in anthropology, the current tenure-track faculty consists of one linguistic anthropologist, one cultural anthropologist, one archaeologist, one bioarchaeologist, and one biological anthropologist, as well as an anthropologist specializing in comparative human development.Prospective applicants are encouraged to see the department's web page at: https://anthropology.sonoma.edu/ Duties of the PositionThe department seeks instructors in undergraduate courses in any one or more of the four traditional subfields of archaeology, cultural, biological, and linguistic anthropology, at either lower-division or upper-division levels. Lower-division introductory courses also serve as General Education courses for non-majors. A.B.D.s, M.A.s, and Ph.D.s in related disciplines with sufficient teaching, work, and/or research experience in the area of specialization will be considered. Experience teaching in hybrid and/or online modalities, and with Canvas LMS or similar is desirable. Candidates should also indicate any relevant experience utilizing innovative instruction techniques and/or working within a diverse university community.Rank and SalaryFull-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment.
