Position Summary:
Function as service line educator, master teacher and preceptor. Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate clinical and non-clinical educational programs for the Rapid Response Team. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* EDUCATION ASSESSMENT - Identify educational needs, practice gaps and issues of staff by collecting data and related information; analyze issues, trends, and supporting evidence to determine needs of individuals, departments, and the organization
* EDUCATION PLAN - Identify desired outcomes; in collaboration with others, develop instructional program(s) that prescribes education curricula, strategies, alternatives, and resources; take into account quality indicators and policies, procedures, guidelines; integrate research findings into plan
* EDUCATE - Educate staff in the use of equipment, supplies, national standards, policies and procedures
* INSTRUCTION - Implement the educational curricula utilizing adult learning principles to employ the most appropriate methodology(ies) to meet goals and objectives; teach relevant content; coordinate educational initiatives and activities; ensure safety and comfort and promote positive learning and practice environments; integrate ethics in all areas of practice
* OUTCOMES - Analyze educational program evaluations; monitor and evaluate progress toward attainment of goals; seek feedback from participants, other educators, and administrators; revise plans accordingly
* QUALITY - Maintain and systematically enhance the quality of instructional programs and effectiveness of educator; advocate for protection and rights of individuals, groups, and others
* PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - Maintain current knowledge and competency in field of expertise and professional development practice; enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services; serve as a role model; maintain certification in specialty area; attend meetings and represent department or hospital on committees as assigned; provider leadership in the practice settings and the profession
* COLLABORATION - Establish collegial partnerships with other professionals, leaders, stakeholders, and others who contribute to the development of peers, staff, students, colleagues, and others; collaborate with individuals and groups to facilitate practice and promote quality outcomes; serve as a consultant and educational resource
* COLLABORATION - Work with Clinical Education to ensure that department meets education requirements for organization and that requirements are updated to reflect changes
* RESOURCE UTILIZATION - Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, quantity, and cost in regard to instructional programs and desired outcomes; demonstrate achievement of productivity goals
* CEU - Provide CEU contact hours following procedure mandated to maintain hospital as an approved provider
* RECORDS - Maintain documentation and records of instructional programs as required by hospital policy and regulatory agencies; produce reports of educational programs by collecting statistical data for administrative and quality improvement purposes
* PERFORM - Perform as staff imaging specialist in licensed discipline a minimum of one day per week
* COMMUNICATION - Establish and maintain open and effective communication patterns with peers, colleagues, students, administrators, and others using the chain of command
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" Qualifications Related Education and Experience may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis.

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
* PALS
* ACLS & PALS INSTRUCTOR W/IN 6 MOS OF POSITION
* Valid New Mexico Driver's License
* UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit w/in 60 days
* CEVO Course within 3 months of position
* Arterial Blood Gas course w/in 3 mos of position
* UNMH basic arrhythmia course w/in 3 mos of position
* DOT Medical Certification within 60 days of position
Nonessential:
* EMS Instructor/Coordinator Certification
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Working conditions:
Essential:
* Sig Haz: Physical risk/injuries due to combative patients
* Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials req PPE
* May drive on/off UNMH grounds, traffic/vehicle exposure
* Weather exposure: rain, ice, wind, snow, sun possible
* Subject to random alcohol and substance testing
MDC Bern Co Contract:
* May be subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements
* Subject to working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals - correctional officers provide security; however some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault from inmates exist
