Closing Date: May 10, 2024Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Grade Control Technician. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this roleSchedule will be 2 weeks on-site, 2 weeks off-siteReporting to the Senior Mine GeologistResponsibilities:Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresWork safely and respect the environmentEnsure ore/waste contacts are correctly flagged and separation is carried out efficiently in the open pitsPlan day to day haulage in the pitWork directly with mine supervisors and engineers to develop short term haulage plansWork directly with heavy equipment operators to carry out detailed excavation, separating ore from wasteCollect and audit daily haulage data, compiling them in a timeline manner for haulage reportsAudit blasthole sample collection and perform QAQC on assay dataStockpile planning and developmentMaintain communication with mine engineering and metallurgy to ensure that all relevant parameters are included in blast releases.Attend daily and weekly meetings to provide input into short-range planningWaste management and reportingStay current and comply with mining laws and company safety proceduresOther related duties as assignedQualifications:Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED equivalentA minimum of three (3) years grade control/geology experience, preferably in an open pit mining environmentPost-secondary education in Earth Science is preferred but not requiredProficient in Microsoft Excel including creating custom formulas and developing new spreadsheets as needed as well as proficiency in other MS Office Suite productsExperience with mining software such as MineSight, Vulcan or an equivalentMust have a valid drivers' licenseHave excellent record keeping skillsAble to work outdoors in an arctic conditions (cold temperature, high winds, heavy snow) Able to walk on rocky slopes on uneven ground; occasional squatting, kneeling, climbing, siting and reaching above the shoulders is requiredColor vision for distinguishing flagging indicator colors, map creation for operators, and giving directions to operators based on color changes in the dig faceProficiency with database and geology software, such as SQL, acQuire or Leapfrog, would be an assetStrong interpersonal communication, written and verbal skillsAble to work with minimal supervisionAbility to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environmentAbout TeckSuccessful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a physical assessment, drug screen and a background check.
