Job Summary
The Equipment Operator performs skilled and semi-skilled labor and operates light/heavy equipment needed to perform road maintenance and construction of local, county, and state highways, roads, and bridges.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodations to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned. Highway Maintenance:
Fills cracks, seals chips, mows ditches, paints stripes, installs and repairs road sign, picks up debris, repairs beam guards/cable guards, ditching, repairs gravel shoulders, removes/cuts trees, and maintains/repairs concrete and asphalt roads and bridges. Highway Construction:
Operates asphalt plant, asphalt road paving, operates gravel pit with crushing equipment, replaces culverts, and plans/parks projects (masonry, carpentry, and excavation/grading). Snow/Ice Control:
Operates snowplow/salters, plow controllers, salt brine making/hauling, and installs/removes snow fences. Machine Maintenance:
Performs simple, mechanical maintenance activities on Highway Department equipment including, but not limited to, tri-axle trucks, 5-yard trucks, loaders, backhoes, rollers, mowers, and/or skid steers, and ensure clean, proper operations. Additionally, maintenance, parts ordering and repairs required for Asphalt Plant & Gravel Pit Crusher operations. 5% Maintains Individual Shops:
Cleans lunchroom/bathrooms, and grounds maintenance.

Minimum Education Qualifications Education and/or Experience Requirements : High school degree. Multiple years of construction and/or skilled labor abilities, and good communication skills. Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) w/ A, B, C, & N Endorsements. MSHA certifications. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications
In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential. Able to fulfill physical demands, sensory demands (seeing and hearing) and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization) of the job. Ability to understand and follow directions for general work assignments. Read, write and perform simple arithmetic. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test and background check. In evaluating candidates for this position, Ozaukee County may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. 
Physical Requirements

  Frequent periods of standing, walking, and climbing. Moderate periods of squatting, crouching, kneeling, and bending. Frequent periods of lifting up to 100 pounds. Work Environment

  Work is performed both indoors and mostly outdoors. Frequent periods of working around moving machinery and equipment. Frequent periods of working alongside moving traffic on roads.
