Description:POSITION OVERVIEWUnder direction of the Chemist, responsible for generating routine assay data at the Silver Bell laboratory in support of exploration, mining, leaching, SXEW process and cathode production.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSExhibit 100% dedication to safe work practices 100% of the time in the laboratory. Help ensure environmental compliance in the Laboratory. Be able to effectively multitask in a high-workload, fast-paced lab environment. Plan and control analytical work to effectively utilize resources with minimum or no direction. Effectively and efficiently manage and report data. Complete sample analysis by means of Flame Atomic Absorption, wet chemistry, ICP, LECO Sulfur analyzer and DC ARC spectrometer. Organize, weigh, digest, dilute, and assay blast hole samples as required for total copper determination. Identify parts, material, supplies and equipment required to ensure continuous operation. Interface with samplers to ensure prompt and accurate sample preparation. Assist as directed with analysis of blast hole samples for sequential acid soluble/cyanide soluble copper determination. Provide technical support to the Silver Bell staff and other departments as needed. Handle laboratory cleanup, and routine reagent preparation as needed/directed. Maintain required training in environmental, and health/safety awareness. Ensure all MSHA requirements are met and help review and update all laboratory safety procedures as required. Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIESTechnical knowledge of mining, leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning processes highly desirable. Competent in routine laboratory techniques and common laboratory equipment used for blast hole analysis, and aqueous SXEW sample analyses highly desirable. Must have experience operating and maintaining flame AA (or ICP) instrumentation. Preferable to have experience using LECO sulfur analyzer experience. Familiarity with common sample preparation techniques used in support of mining operations highly desirable. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with employees, other supervisors and managers. Must have excellent computer skills. Must have valid driver's license. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEExperience with general laboratory techniques and AA required. A core value of ASARCO LLC is "Safety First."
