Description of Job
This position will provide support to the Colorado Department of Revenue's Drivers License, Record, Identification, and Vehicle Enterprise Solutions (Colorado DRIVES). The primary goal of DRIVES is to provide a flexible, reliable, accurate and integrated solution for driver and vehicle services, as well as business licensing and revenue accounting.The Tester II is responsible for conducting activities during the system test phase of the software development lifecycle, including planning and executing system tests based on adherence to requirements, identifying and managing, test data, and identifying and managing software defects. The Tester II operates at the application level.Plan and Execute System Test Cases:
Create test plans for moderately complex to majorly complex projects.
Execute functional and regression test cases as well as performance and security test cases.
Create and maintain requirements traceability matrices.
Identify and manage test data needed for projects and work with Senior Tester (if needed) to obtain it.
With support of senior testers and test managers, create and update automated scripts for existing and new functionality.
Coordinate with Project Managers and Business Analyst throughout testing process to ensure correct reporting information is relayed.
Identify and Manage Test Defects:
Follow defect management process for system test and user acceptance test.
Establish effective communication with development teams for defect management.
Document defects and their resolution.
Monitor the management of defects.
Determine when a valid defect has occurred, how to communicate it, or if it needs to be escalated for analysis or repair.
Innovation and Automation of Testing
With Support of Senior Tester, create and update complex automated scripts for existing and new functionality.
Create, obtain and manage test data.
Report, Facilitate, and Work on Initiatives for Center of Excellence
Facilitate and participate in workgroups to support the Center of Excellence initiatives.
Participate in project related meetings.
Facilitate defect review meetings.
Facilitate peer review meetings as they relate to test plans and test scripts for other testers.
Additional Duties As Assigned:
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Determines if a defect fix is successful with support from the business requirements team.
Determines what defect metrics to communicate.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Education/Training
2-5 years of relevant experience with functional system test cases, data, or test suites, standard defect management tools and processes, application development, or regular client-side use of relevant applications with demonstrated understanding of program functionality.
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to those applicants who studied Information Systems, Computer Science or related disciplines.
Relevant work experience may be substituted for education at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Work Experience
Experience developing and executing test plans, including manually testing cases, defect validation and problem reporting.
Experience troubleshooting web applications and diagnosing technical issues.
Preferred Skills
Experience working on a Scrum or Kanban team and familiarity with Agile processes preferred.
Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
Strong sense of teamwork and desire to work in the best interest of the team.
Inquisitive, curious personality; a love of troubleshooting and a desire to understand how the system behaves and interacts with other systems helpful.
Demonstrated experience writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and cases.
Hands-on experience with both white and black box testing.
Hands-on experience with automated tools helpful but not required.
Strong knowledge of SQL helpful.
Scripting experience (Python, Ruby or other scripting languages) helpful but not required.

Comparative Analysis Process: is the selection process used to identify the applicant that fits the job the best from a qualified applicant pool. Applications and applicants are compared to others in the pool to identify a top group. Applicants will be notified of their status in the pool via email.
On-call Status: Position may be required to be on-call.
Travel: May require travel to locations throughout the state.
