Starting pay is $23.00 per hour plus benefits and advancement opportunities. The Department of Corrections is looking for professional, enthusiastic Teachers to fill multiple ABE-Teacher Vacancies across the state of Wisconsin. Our teachers work 12 months per year.

Current vacancy located in the following institutions:Jackson Correctional Institution (Jackson, County), New Lisbon Correctional Institution (Juneau, County), Columbia Correctional Institution (Columbia County), Red Granite Correctional Institution (Waushara, County), Taycheedah Correctional Institution (Fond du Lac County, Oshkosh Correctional Institution, Winnebago, County).

Anticipated part-time vacancy located at:Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility (Racine, County).

Position Summary:Under the general supervision of the Education Director, this position will develop and implement a program of professional educational services in Adult Basic Education (ABE) to inmates in order to meet their assessed individual academic needs.
Special Notes:Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection.
Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.
Qualifications:
Adult Basic Education (ABE) credentials must meet criteria determined by Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). Applicants meet one of the five areas listed below in order to be eligible & move forward in the selection process:

1) Bachelor?s Degree or higher in Elementary Education

2) Bachelor?s Degree or higher in Secondary Education in the area of Reading, English, Math Science or Social Studies

3) Bachelor?s Degree or higher in Special Education

4) Bachelor?s Degree or higher with a minor in any one of the following areas (Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social Studies)

5) Bachelor?s Degree or higher with 15 combined semester credits in Math, Reading, English, Science or Social Studies.

Note: Does not include Health, Art, Music or Physical Education for any of the above areas.
