The Senior Portfolio and Data Analyst will produce regular and ad hoc reporting in order to monitor performance and actions taken to improve profitability and growth for the business. Findings will be utilized within the Portfolio Management Team and also distributed to Senior Leadership and internal business partners. The Senior Portfolio and Data Analyst will generate regular reports to support producing qualitative and quantitative summaries, and at times may also be directly responsible for distributing business reports to areas of the organization.

The Senior Portfolio and Data Analyst will have advanced knowledge and experience in data, data extraction, database structures, analysis, report building, automation, and the tools necessary to generate reports (manually and automated). He/she will support our strategy of leveraging data, analytics, and automation to produce insightful reporting. The Senior Portfolio and Data Analyst will have a desire to understand the business in order to deliver meaningful reports and how these reports relate to business objectives. Although this position is more data and report generation focused, a blend of both technical and analytical skills are important in this role.

Responsibilities include:

Develop and maintain insightful metrics reporting, including creating models and projections

Produce business reports to support leadership in identifying drivers and formulating action plans to improve growth and profitability

Automate existing and new reports to fullest extent possible by leveraging appropriate tools (SQL, SSMS, SSIS, linking to external data sources, etc.)

Collect and store data from multiple data sources that may not be in a structured DB and are in varying formats

Extract data for reporting

Find opportunities to improve report content to add additional value

Provide ongoing support to business partners for ad hoc inquiries

Ensure data quality and data governance practices are in place and adhered to

Identify potential data\process issues and implement or recommend appropriate solutions

Build relationships and partner with those responsible upstream that may impact the data, while providing guidance on best practices to ensure data is available and accurate

Assist project and operations teams with data requirements as needed

Work cross-functionally with other areas that provide supporting functions (finance, claims, operations, IT, actuarial, underwriting, account management)


Bachelor?s Degree, preferably in Data Analytics, Information Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics and/or other related discipline

3+ years experience in the Insurance or Finance industry

5+ years of relevant technical experience in data and reporting (regular and ad hoc reporting)

Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting

5+ years experience with tools utilized to automate and create/maintain reports, including SQL, SSMS, SSIS

2+ years experience in business analysis

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (link to external data sources, pivot tables, macros, summarizing data into reports, charts, slicers, dashboards)

Possesses analytical and problem solving skills

Demonstrated ability to understand key business drivers to ensure reports are insightful

Ability to work cross-functionally with areas that provide supporting functions

Capable of making decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations


Experience using mathematics and statistical languages (Python, R) to transform complex data into advanced analytic solutions

Experience with or working knowledge of underwriting and/or actuarial metrics and practices

2+ years experience with project management methodologies, preferably in an Agile environment (story writing, sprints, business testing, etc.)

Experience with visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, Power BI)

Other MS Office applications including Access and PowerPoint
