Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for owning the mechanical aspects of various machinery and tooling projects.
These may vary from small R&D tasks to large scale production equipment.
You will work with customers to define the needs and specifications for their projects.
These projects will generally be interdisciplinary, and the engineer will work with other members of the team to deliver an integrated and functional solution.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the design of systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and toolsContinually develop, improve, and drive best practices and standardsIntegrate off-the-shelf and custom robotics, actuation, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripheralsMeet project budgets and schedules and coordinate progress with project managers and other project stakeholdersCreate 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of designs.Provide training and mentorship to other Engineers including reviewing and approving their work.Provide mentorship and guidance to the production team during the build and commissioning of your machines.When necessary, validate designs prior to final design by building and testing prototypesCoordinate with interdisciplinary teams on controls and software integrationCoordinate with and manage external suppliersCoordinate with customers to refine requirements and align on project requirementsSupport equipment deployment at customer sites as neededEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Automation and machine designAbility to size and specify actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripheralsMastery of SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD softwareMastery of engineering drawings and tolerancesUnderstanding of GD&T, Y14.5M-2009Extensive knowledge of materials and fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.
)Proficiency with controls and software concepts6+ years designing custom automated equipmentProficiency specifying and troubleshooting pneumatic componentsProven expertise in designing fixtures, jigs, and other toolingBS or higher degree in engineering field6+ years in a mechanical design experience for industrial automation and/or machine building environmentUnderstanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 complianceJobot is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
