The Clinical Pharmacology and Quantitative Pharmacology Department at AstraZeneca seeks an
experienced Scientist I to support development and implementation of bioanalytical and biomarker
assays of cell-based therapeutics to be located in South San Francisco, CA or Gaithersburg, MD.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The job-holder will serve as a bioanalytical and biomarker scientist on pre-clinical and clinical
programs of novel cell-based therapeutics. Responsibilities include development (hands-on
laboratory work), qualification and implementation of bioanalytical/biomarker assays to quantify
product quantities and pharmacodynamic activities thereof for
AstraZeneca cell-based therapeutics. In addition, the candidate will manage interactions with
contract research organizations (CROs), including assay transfer, validation, trouble-shooting and
analysis of resulting data.
Requirements/Qualifications
PhD in immunology/cell biology/microbiology or related field; 1-3 years of academic, pharmaceutical
or biotechnology industry experience in cell-based therapeutics or immunology.
Experience:
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to drug development process with a strong track record of
identifying creative solutions to complex problems.
* Previous management of CRO interactions &/or academic collaborations.
* Must be motivated and capable of working independently as well as in a team setting.
* Has track record of generating high-quality work with publication record in the relevant
fields.
* Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Special Skills/Abilities:
* Strong knowledge of cell biology and immunology
* Expertise with cell characterization technologies include high-parameter flow cytometry (design
and implementation of 12+ parameter assays using BD Symphony and/or Cytek Aurora instruments) and
ELISPOT-based assays
* Understanding and facility with modern multi-parametric analysis techniques (e.g. tSNE, SPADE,
SOM, PCA)
* Familiarity with molecular techniques associated with CAR T production (viral transfection,
qPCR)
* Familiarity with clinical/translational assay qualification.
